In this Bonsai video, I show you step-by-step how to propagate Hinoki Cypress from cuttings and transform them into Bonsai.

The method of bonsai propagation I am showing you is what has always worked for me and I believe is the easiest and best way for beginners! Simply pot your cuttings up into some compost, I use rooting powder containing IBA for faster rooting and after just one growing season you should notice them develop roots. Once the Hinoki cuttings have roots, the following year simply transfer them into some fresh soil and water them well.

When taking cuttings proper aftercare is important! I share some bonsai care tips like using IBA rooting hormone along with applying an anti-transpirant to help cuttings retain moisture in their foliage. This prolonged moisture retention increases their chances of rooting successfully, as they remain alive and healthy for a longer period. Hinoki Cypress (Chamaecyparis Obtusa) is popular in Bonsai for its fine vibrant green foliage and elegant shape. The tree's graceful branches with tight growth and sturdy trunk make it ideal for creating a beautiful Bonsai.
